  1. The error is possibly planchet rather than die related and likely to make the coin less rather than more valuable. It makes it rarer I suppose, but only in the same way as if somebody had scratched their initials on it. Incidentally, I have a William III halfcrown which has a very similar problem where a piece of the planchet seems to have flaked off before the coin was minted. the bit where it looks damaged is slightly thicker than the rest of the coin, i dont know if it was a lumpy planchet, or part of the die was broken, but the part is slightly raised above where the lettering is supposed to be. it has a vague bit of stamping on the raised bit, but not what it should be, can anyone tell me what probably happened to it?
  2. hi, i found this 1912 penny and it looks really odd to me, on the reverse? (brittania side) there seems to be almost no rim, like its beaded up to the edge with hardly any rim. the sea to the left of brittania seems to merge with the beads, and on the back it looks really deep and super sharp, the reverse rim and beading together is less than 0.5mm and over 1mm for the obverse. dunno if you can tell from my scan but it really doesnt look normal: http://i545.photobucket.com/albums/hh390/mckeown01/oddpenny.jpg
  3. Accepting that you may be new to grading (the coin is probably around GF), there is one other thing that would earn you a teensy slap across the wrist, and that is in describing the coin as 'rare' when it's nothing of the sort. The coin is perfectly collectable but your heading is likely to get collectors' backs up and result in a lack of trust. If you want help with grading, I'm sure there are plenty of people on here who will throw you a lifeline, juat post a picture before listing and we'll help out but as regards the description, if you are unaware of how rare the coin actually is, suggest you say nowt. Lecture over! i was describing that coin with the what seems to be a die error as making it rarer, not a charles ii threepence as rare, but anyway thanks for the heads up
  4. one guy i bought a coin of said he had 3 unc 1870's 1d's so ive asked him to provide photos and price he requests, fingers crossed x
  5. by the way just to let you know im not here trying to spam the forum with my ebay, i do really like collecting coins and am here learning the error of my ways so far
  6. i have allsorts of coins on ebay at the moment that noone will buy from me; charles ii to nazi, tbh i wouldnt sell them if i wasnt so skint a student, and in my stupidity i paid more than what im selling them for, i just hope they go so i can start afresh with a proper collecting plan so when i eventually get more money i buy good stuff that i like
  7. It's a perfectly acceptable threepence. Apart from some strange planchet damage below the portrait.. Ive decided to sell it anyway ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170723157733 ) as you can see from my listing i cant grade to save my life still, but ive decided im going to focus my collection to nice grade bunhead pennies, i have been buying coins in a scatter-brained way, i have 1 last coin about to arrive ( a septimus severus silver denarius) which ill sell, then ill start on a proper collection. Do you have pictures? gimmee a minute, i have a pic but it hasnt arrived yet

  15. from now on im not buying anything thats in bad nick, im gonna start off my nice coin collection with some piedfort one pounds.on a lighter note i managed to touch a 1863 proof crown at my local dealers the other day, i got goose bumps!
  16. cheers for trying to make me feel better i may just keep the 1912 1d as it looks quite nice, and put the rest in my scrap pile, i buy alot of rubbish off ebay, i have a really bad 1816 half crown on its way too, yet another for scrap!
  17. i was at least expecting £2 worth of coins, the seller hasnt replied to my messages, i thought id at least give her the chance to remedy it before i slated her in the feedback, i hope its not worth losing her 100% feedback over £2, i know its only £2 but its really bothered me that they sent the wrong lot
  18. anyway the stuff i bought in the picture is better than what arrived, ill list what i was sent: 1966 threepence !! 1920 farthing 1947 florin 1912 penny (pic) 1807 penny 1941 farthing 1899 penny needless to say im a little annoyed as i was at least expecting a 1860 farthing and a silver sixpence
  19. for £2 its worth a shot
  20. so i take it its just a normal penny with no value? i bought 7 random coins off ebay, and they sent me the wrong 7. in the lot i was meant to get there was at least a silver sixpence, and a george 3rd penny (hopefully 1808), this was the best coin of the bunch (there is a 1807 penny but its very badly worn almost blank) it only cost me a couple of quid but it seems i was sent a load of rubbish, i think ill stick to collecting piedfort silver proofs from now on lol, at least i know what im getting
  21. 1912KN ? i thought they only did 1918 and 1919?
