    Ebay's Worst Offerings

  7. Cannot find it listed, but always live in hope
  8. Anyone had this happen ? I've not bid for a while and the Ebay screen has altered in the last few seconds before an item sells , from what it used to show, in that you dont have to write in your bid , but can click on Ebays suggested bid. I had bid £81.00 and was outbid at £85.00 so I bid £188.00 ( my decided max ) then the screen showed something like " dont miss it "and £195.00 was showing so I clicked on that deciding to not miss it for £7.00. This was in the last 4 seconds, and the next thing that showed was the item sold for £541.00 which was great for the seller , but what scared me was that I was the underbidder at £531.00 Someone suggests that what must have happened was that when I clicked £195.00 the Ebay system was about to update the " suggested bid screen " so my bid registered as the figure that was about to appear, rather than what I could clearly see

    Guineas

PhilipC is certainly right about the rarity ratings as most price guides just keep to the same prices for multiple dates whereas some dates always turn up and other dates have not been seen for years. I've never heard to a rarity guide to Guinea Dates but Spinks did one for Five Guineas " The Rarity of Five Guinea Pieces -An Analysis " It was I think in the Samuel King Collection The shows the Rarest Five Guinea to be the 1674 date that even Murdock Duveen and King never found an example of, yet one slipped through the London Sales for £3000.00 in 2004 I notice Spinks only list it at £3500.00 Fine and £7750.00 VF in their latest Catalogue !!! I wonder what they would want for one
  10. What value would it have add and what value now. It would be interesting to know the percentage loss caused byb the gouge or cut, thanks for any thoughts

    GOLD COINS for Sale

Selling a few bits and pieces a friend is letting go of to fund another purchase He has some others and may sell those later I thought about £700.00 for these two as they list £625.00 Fine and £1125 VF and I feel condition is somewhere between those grades. Both have some wear and scuffs , but the edges are good and they have never been mounted . I'm hoping for Bank Transfer and posting to UK only and hope the kind of price leaves a margin for a Coin Dealer to sell them on ?

  16. Thanks Rob and RLC35 , I always live in hope of finding something for nothing but I thought the Top Left Serif looked very large, wheras on any Photos of 1862 pennies I can find they are very small and at 90 degrees but mine has a very sharp angle and looks far more chunky ?
  17. London Coins has this , they appear to say its Die Struck, and the edge lettering is bold So very worrying as it looks pretty convincing (Lot 1953 September 2013 Auction) I cannot add the Photos as the Forum is blocking them

    New Ebay Fee Structure

Ebay / Paypal ( real name mafia ) needs a good alternative, as bleeding sellers dry. Latest user agreement appears to say, if you dont give a long money back guarantee with a full postage refund, Ebay can ( and will ) let the buyer keep the item for free and Ebay will then take the full money from your Paypal Account Then the new Paypal agreement is a SIX MONTHS money back guarantee, so anyone can claim " Item not received or not as described " for up to six months. How can you prove delivery even with items sent Special Delivery after six months because Royal Mail wont have the details and in any case wont allow a claim after that time .
  19. " carla.smythick " asked about Dave Bark , sorry regret not heard about him for perhaps 20 plus years , perhaps someone else knows more , as you are trying to get in touch...

    Widows 7 Or 8?

Been a lot of rumours that Windows " 8 " will soon be ditched by Microsoft. A friend recently bought " 8 " for his wife and he says its so bad he cannot use it. A large company owning friend had to update to " 8 " for just the one recent computer and he says the operator using that works at about 50% of his other staff . He's been trying to down grade it to Windows " 7 " but has failed so far.......I should go for Windows " 7 " if you can find one.
