Beautiful. I'm sure if Wyon were alive today he would be doing exactly this.

Thank you for all your kind wishes. I'm into day three now and the days have just flown by! We are starting to get a bit more settled now and Lorraine would also like to thank you all as well.Congrats, Hussulo!

Out of service when I visited, doesn't look like it will be for long.

Thanks everyone! Just got my pack of stuff through from Durham and the number of forms to fill in is quite amazing - why don't they do it over the internet? Can't wait to go, I'm really geared up for it.

Hi all, picked up my A-level results today and I got:
- Economics - A
- Politics - A
- Maths - A
- General Studies - A
And a distinction in the advanced extension award for Economics. All in all a good day! So this means I'm off to Durham at the end of September to study Economics & Politics. Anyone know any good coin shops?!

Beautiful, looks like something Sylvester would be envious of!

So, in a way, I'm jumping on the band wagon too. You're catering to the market.

They are starting to loose the art factor and replacing it with the tat factor.I think they lost it long ago! The Britannia series and a few of the £2s are the notable exceptions.

My sarcasm was a bit too subtle! This woman already has one coin in her memory, why she needs another is beyond me. Plus the execution (seemingly like all modern RM issues) is below par.

That is beautiful. Really nice colour, is it like that in the flesh?

Pretty big mistake there! Did you know it existed or was it a fluke? I just cashed in lots of commemorative £2s at the bank...every time I received one in change I put it away in a box.
Edit: Just checked one that was leftover and it had the correct lettering.

Just mirrored it in Photoshop. See if this helps!

Now the only time I use IE is for downloading .pdf files.Firefox can still open pdfs.

The public should trust numismatists more, we're generally a very honest bunch. When you read stories about dealers in America ripping people off it sometimes makes me wonder.

Whoa I didn't see this topic so I started another! I'll attempt to merge them but that will probably end in disaster.
Edit: Success!

Is this the official 2007 sovereign strike? This is not my area of collecting but I have to say it looks like a step backwards in design, to me it looks more `cartoon`, also why is George poking his tonge out to the dragon?
Yep, that's the proof version (you don't want to see the circ strike!).
-
Is proof found in circulation? If the proof is worn and found in circulation it is still proof?
No, proofs aren't generally found in circulation. Even if it was worn, the coin would still be a proof if it could be identified as such. It would be rare to find a proof in circulation, rarer too a proof sovereign!

Cross-posted from another site, it seems the Mint is recutting the reverse for the 2007 sovereigns.
I think they messed up on this. Boatloads of detail especially in George's and the horse's muscles has been lost and the relief is so low as to be almost flat.

at least the guest's can still read themThat is a bonus. I've seen some forums where you have to register just to read the posts.

The nuclear option, perhaps, but every time I logged on there were several topics queued in a few forums which were spam. I think most people who bother to find the site if they have inherited/discovered some coins wouldn't be dissuaded from posting because of registration.

Could merchandise like this even be shifted? Granted they could melt them down but there can't be much money in that and bringing them back to market would be suicide. Unless they're stolen to order of course, they do seem quite specific.
