  1. Hi Mark,

I have just seen your South Shields Half Penny, beautiful.

But as you are local I wondered if you have ever considered joining the Tyneside Numismatic Society? We meet on the second Wednesday of every month @ 7:30  in the function room at the Plough, 369 Old Durham Rd, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear NE9 5LA.

We are a friendly bunch, and always happy to welcome new faces.

As it happens I will miss next weeks meeting as I am away on holiday, but it is always a great night, socializing with  fellow collectors.

Junior membership is only £2 but you need to be accompanied by an appropriate adult :P

Once upon a time I was the youngest member :(

I mainly collect foreign coins, as do a number of other members, but recently I have got into collecting the London & Newcastle Tea Co series of tokens.

Pop along whenever you can, as I say I wont be there next Wednesday, but you are guaranteed a warm welcome.

We have around 25 members, with usually around 15 to 20 turning up at any one meeting.

Most members are retired, but a few of us are in our 40's  50's and a couple in their 30's (I think).

There is a wealth of knowledge across a broad collecting spectrum.

Prospective members can attend 2 meetings as our guest before you would be asked to join, so you can try before you buy so to speak. Not that the £4 per year puts people off.

Most meetings include an auction where members bring in lots to sell.
