£2 2015 Britannia die alignment error.

I suspect if a coin press has been setup incorrectly for striking coins for circulation, there must be 10 of thousands if not 100 of thousands out there.
  2. Welcome, As above buy the book, you wont regret it Martin is right about edge lettering being 50:50, never pay heed to any eBay seller who says a coin is "Rare" it rarely is. And don't forget to check your till for new £5 notes with a AA01 prefix. Ian..

£2 2015 Britannia die alignment error.

Isn't die alignment supposed to be one of the tell tale indicators of a fake? What ever happened to quality control at the RM?

    CGS "membership" Fee

I'm not a lawyer, but I believe the rights to the photograph would either need to have been outlined in the original agreement or it belongs to the photographer/company who took it. If London Coins have bought the rights for the photos from CGS then they have the right to use them, if they haven't, then I believe with the demise of CGS the images become copyright free. Either way London coins can use the images as they wish. Ian..
  10. Hi Kerryn, Any Chance you can post pics? But if it is 18 carat gild t has an inherent value. Ian..

    What would you do ?.

I have a few, I'll clear my desk now
  12. I'd prefer a token rather than a pint. But as Rob says the price may be due to their rareity, adding so many to the population may kill the price, I be inclined to release one or two to the market, to cash in then sit on the others before releasing another couple, which then probably wont make quite as much. Not knowing much about these tokens, I dont know if there are both common and rare varieties, but even if these are contemporary forgeries, they could still have a reasonable value. I really do hope they are right for you Craig, but no more cleaning and get an expert in the field to advised you before you let them go. Good luck, and keep us informed as to what you find out. Ian..
  13. Hi Craig, I think they are Netherlands East India company tokens, I haven't seen one before but if you look at the link to Baldwins Auction Lot 927 suggests they are rare, only six known (until you opened your dads shoe box) http://www.baldwin.co.uk/media/cms/auction-archive/auction-hkca57/BALDWINS%20HongKong%20Auction%2057%20-%2004%20-%20MALAY%20INDONESIA%20AND%20PLANTATION%20TOKENS.pdf Ian..

    What would you do ?.

I find myself diversifying into things significantly different to my main interests, to keep me interested. My latest diversion is local tokens, and I've found myself looking at historic medals too. You could even consider something like banknotes

    Helping potential Coin collectors.

It's great to here of young collectors coming into the hobby. I recently gave a work colleague a bag of coins for his son, I'm guessing nothing as good as Peter gave to his apprentice. Good on you Peter.

    Help!!

As Peter says, why are they deteriorating, damp, poor handling? and I'd be more worried about whatever it is damaging the coins. That said if the laminating is done to a reasonable standard I dont think it should matter much. Ian..

    Enthusiasm for collecting has stalled...

Someone should start "Coin Collectors Anonymous". But we would all relapse as soon as they start handing out those tokens for being clean for x number of days and we start comparing grades.

    2p Varieties

Thanks Scott, I'll try and track down a copy.

    2p Varieties

Last year I posted a link to an article I wrote for the Tyneside Numismatic Society's newsletter on decimal varieties, where I referenced a number of forum members work and photos, with their permission. On the back of this someone mentioned they were working on cataloging 2p varieties, but I am unable to remember who it was or track down their post or email. My better half has announced she is going to bank her VERY large, "penny jar" and desperately want to retrieve any varieties that may exist. Please, anyone with any information on 2p varieties can you share your info before all these bronze pennies get banked and melted.

Lowly beginner in need of guidance

Hi Mark, Welcome, you will soon find out that there are some VERY knowledgeable collectors/dealers on here who are immensely generous with their time and knowledge (just wish I knew 10% of what they do). Empire sounds like a great place to start, but don't be too rigid, buy what you like. As you are in West Yorkshire, you might be interested in the York Show 15th -16th July http://www.stampshows.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=4&Itemid=5 or joining the Yorkshire Numismatic Society http://yorkshirenumismatic.blogspot.co.uk/ Happy collecting.
