Just noticed that 2018 shield 50ps are all the rage on the internet at the moment - I managed to find three in circulation so I dont think I have done too badly .

They seem to fetch anything from £25 - £40.00 at the moment but as we know from experience these things tend to snowball (at this time of the year especially) LOL.

    Happy hunting

Much lower mintage than the 2016 shield as well and they now fetch 50+.

  2. Could it be collectors are over looking this coin and not seeing the wood for the trees? although the coin is stamped in silver is not clear this coin is quite special in that from this year the mint has moved away from the circulated design of the part shield and gone retro making the coin just that little more special.

it's just an heads up for you out there looking to invest, this also applies for the 2019 silver gift penny which is all so of the portcullis design.

Am I right in saying all the smaller 2017 coins are pretty thin on the ground? I see I have none yet below the 50ps and even Ebay seems pretty sparse for them - a few very expensive and that is it.

Ive saw none of the small change about at all and the small change normally comes out first.

I am beginning to doubt all the figures released by the Royal Mint on their website. I was looking at the numbers for 2017 50ps - according to their list there were no Royal Shield ones that year - but I have one and I don't believe they are rare. Mine did not come out of a set I am pretty sure - I picked it up in loose change last year. So what is going on?

PS - I also see that they say no £1 coins were issued in 2016, just 640 million of the new ones in 2017. We all no that is wrong.

     😕

The figure will come in for the 2017 shield 50p paddy,im waiting to see that one for myself.

The coin is very light on the ground.

  5. In 2009 i never found a decent pound coin and i think i put two in the box at collectable grade 27 milloin minted.

In 2010 the minting figure was double that and i found bucket loads, this to me makes little sense as do the minting figures on many occasions.

I think its quite probable that there is a difference in the NO. of coins circulated to that minted.

Strangely I have had a 2017 Shield in circulation - I think it was the first 2017 50p I picked up. Must have been October last year.

Also seen the Newton and two of the Beatrix series - all now tucked away in my album. Still waiting to see the first of the alphabet 10ps in my change!

I have a feeling there will plenty of the alphabet coins turned out for circulation and my betting is the scarce one will be the 27th coin on the list the common shield 10p.

It may start a craze of, i beleave with the mints recall of ten pences and fives pre 2011 it will make some of those coins hard to come by for date runs.

Think of the 2010 shield 10p stamped and then recalled the very next year leaving little time for them to end up down the back of settees, collectors coins of the future.

  7. Also you must take into accout over 50 million 50p coins have be stamped with the beatrix potters and the isaac newton coin for 2017.

None of the new mint bags with the Jeremy fishers and tom kittens are showing any signs of 2017 shield being amongst them.

With 50 million 50ps the quota may have well more than been met.

I concur, as for mintage figures I thik the RM gave a figure which included all the commemoratives for that year, rather than breaking it down.

The 2017 shield definitely exists in the year set, but whether many more were actually minted it's hard to tell. I haven't found any in change, but then it's literally only this week that other 2017 50p's have started circulating - there were 4 more Beatrix Potter coins along with Isaac Newton.

The don't currently show any mintage for Royal Shield for 2017, but now have the figures for all others for 2017 up Mintage Figures.

The 2017 shield 50p was circulated, minted and batched out by last October, examples are available on ebay but i have not met any one who has personally had one in their change thats including myself.

  9. Quite a number of the jane austin bu coins are turing up with what i would discribe as ring like indentation around the circumference of the reverse, my guess is it may be some sort of exstreme ghosting.

I don't think the coin will turn up in any great numbers in circulation, looking at the design allthough it being a nice coin it will quickly turn tatty in circulation.

  10. I can't see them saving 2017 ten pence coins some how.

Normally they are stamped and then batched, if they are not needed they don't get stamped.

Like i say according to the royal mint 24.5 million 2017 coins have been produced as yet none have bèen circulated.

  11. Its interesting that we are waiting for 2018 ten pence coins in 2018 when according to the mint they have stamped 24.5 million 2017 ten pences and there are none that i can see in circulation.

Is the mint now skiping a year?
