    silver thing

You're all wrong - it's a modern commemorative featuring scenes from "Invasion of the Body-Snatchers". Those figures are so obviously from a galaxy far far away. You're not really Erich Von Daniken by any chance? no he was roman catholic, but this my be proof that ufo's do exist, five quid they can have it back.

    silver thing

thank you bagerap, the small hole that has been drilled and plugged, was to find out if is was silver then I would think.
  3. I'm glad you said most. We're not all like that, I can assure you. That's the thing Clive, he does as much damage for the reputation of archaeologists as he does detectorists. As you can probably see the man has knack of winding folk up There allways knocking detectorists, but they love to get there hands on what they find coin collectors and archeologists. There would be some bare shelves in musums if were not for this 99.5% of the time harmless hoby.Im would not condone any body that steals from digs but can you understand why archeologists whould actively go out and scatter copper washers over the river embankment in london so to deture peaple finding what would be washed out to sea.Ill vote for common sense evey time.

    1887 SIXPENCE R over V

When you say 620 were JH, how many of these were shield reverse? did any of the JH Shield rev have the A in Victoria over a much higher A? I have come across this overstike just twice. Also do you know of any die varieties of the JEB on truncation type or was it a sole pairing of dies? 418. I would like to talk to you. 07967505509 Thank you, very interesting stats. That is a lot of 1887s to look through! Yeah sure thing, when is the best time(s) to call? I have three of these and two of the three are R/I there all jeb one of them has a mark on the coin which I beleave was on the blank prior to strikeing.
  5. can any body tell me what one of these is worth,im interested in the coin but am not sure on a price.

    ten pound coin

thank's for info, they are alderny coins limited to 500, set of two cased, was interested in the as they are ten pound coins, but the guy is asking over 400 quid for them,so think ill pass them by. £400 compares with what the Royal Mint (who make these on behalf of Alderney) charge (Royal Engagement Alderney £10 65mm Silver Proof £375 +p&P) But then you would need to find another collector of such things to get back your money. As a contrast a silver Brittania coin (1oz silver) costs £58 or so but at scrap value of silver is worth £15. So you're paying an awful lot for the design. Now I'm aware that's the same case for most coins. The cost of what I collect (shillings of Charles I) is vastly more than the value of the silver the coin is made out of. I'm paying for the history. But there are more people who collect coins that have circulated and used to buy things than there are who collect the sort of commemorative pieces we're talking about here. In the end, if you like something and want to collect it, go ahead. Just remember, you'll need to find someone else who likes these to have a chance of getting back your money. I just didn't want you to think that you were buying something people will be queuing up to buy off you, or that will aquire value due to scarcity. The price of silver is, like gold, at an all time high right now and you'd be buying at that peak. again thanks for the input, the person selling the coins dose state for just over 440 quid there are two coins and they are 5oz each would that be 65mm

No Date 20P Worth a buy?

look at price of these coins going though ebay if you have any for sale for 30 quid contact me,these coin are real Collectors items and should not be rubished, same if you have any 1971 double headed half pence coins for 30 quid .keep them and enjoy them that's what is's all about. Many here would disagree - and would probably refer to them as ridiculously overhyped items that were minted in (as they now estimate) hundreds of thousands. They've probably not even now descended to their true level. On the other hand they may have, but I'm not about to wait around and find out. The sheer numbers that have appeared on eBay shows how non-rare they truly are. Worth pulling from change of course, but not IMO worth paying good money for. O let's see shall i, have a coin from my pocket, what a silly coin it is, what shall i do with it,i think i will throw it away,ye wat ever.

    black country pub token

This pub is listed in 1830 on this site as being run by Hannah Blew, and is listed in an 1891 census as being on the High Street here. I suggest you search for old Stourbidge notices which may hopefully tie the name on the token to a specific period. It's probably late 18th-early 19th century, but would need pursuing. The Gothic style of lettering would place it much later than 18th Century - more like the mid-19th possibly, when the Gothic revival was at its height? I'm thinking more in line with tokens to replace non-existent currency for payment. There wasn't a shortage of currency in the mid-19th century. I would have thought that token issuing almost ceased after say 1820 having been outlawed (again) in the previous decade. The key to it will be finding out when E Jones was landlord. Census returns after 1851 will probably eliminate the last 160 years. That's certainly the key to it. As for tokens in general - pub tokens continued long after the general token industry had ended, and carried on into the 20th Century, used for anything from juke boxes to fruit machines to gambling where there wasn't a gambling licence, etc. thank' for all input, the other side of the token has a three in side two lorel branches and the name H.Harper at the bottom.

    1876 penny no H

Because 99 out of every 100 people (you may find this hard to believe LOL) regard coins as mere money, or at best interesting metal discs to be defaced in a variety of interesting ways. People have split two extremely common pennies and stuck two of the different halves together for no better reason than "Hey, I've got a new lathe". When I looked through bags of pennies in the late 60s, you wouldn't believe the number of defaced items I found, from deeply machined initials and / or numbers, to serrating, heart- or other-shaped holes, or simply machining off every other letter in the legend. thank's for all the input, beleave it or not ive found another coin same date no H since I posted this Q.these coins were minted in in birmingham im sure, most had the H some diden't the coins are there and are not rare BUT are they on record,

Can you repost it full on rather than at an angle? Thanks. By the way, the bottom of the three above, looks like a wider date than normal, so that might be worth a picture too.

    unc tokens x207

Hi, The first thing to establish is whether they are genuine (how were they found, where were they found and might be worth getting one checked by someone with token expertise to authenticate them). If they are genuine they appear to be a very collectable token, these larger tokens tended to be susceptible to edge damage. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Staffs-NETHERTON-Withymoor-19th-c-1d-token-1813-GRIFFIN-/150510266940 However bear in mind a find of that quantity will inevitably flood the market and will lower the prices, because what may have been a scarce token has now become less scarce thanks for fast responce, ive seen the ebay sale or atemped sale of the token in the link.these tokens have been handed down, I don't think they could be fakes because of the detail, it would have taken a very fine die maker to make coins of this Q . I have surgested that some one may have got there hands on the die's and stamped them out at a latter date. would like authenticate these token's advice on this matter please? again thank's for your replies.
