    Annual British Coin Issues

As a swiss coincollector i was glad to find lots of informations on the following site that is online since many years: Coins of the UK Have fun -Simon- BTW: You even may find some interesting info on my website if you know a little german or use the google-translator. But... you may fall into laughter because the translation fails quite often. http://coins.thedudes.ch

    Some Rarities

I wonder when they selling the gold-coin of Coenwulf. Would be interesting how much the buyer ist willing to pay this time Anyway I always appreciate to look through the auctions even if I don't have the money to buy one. It's amazing how good the condition of a coin at a high price-level!

    1797 Twopence

By the way: The Diameter of a Triple Unite is 46mm and its weight is 27.2grams. I own several cartweel pennies and Twopences and its just fun to look at them because of its different colours. In my oppinion, coppercoins in general can be very interesting to look at with all its various colours they get over the years. -Simon-
  4. Here are another few tips... 1) Use the macro-mode of your cam (do you?) 2) Shot with the max resolution of your cam 3) Select the TIFF image format (if available) or RAW 4) Use a stand and shot your coin through a paper-cone with three lights around it (on the outside) (I use backing paper) 5) Use an external trigger or at least autodelay a few seconds. This avoids the blurring of the picture 6) Finally use Gimp (software) for free! You'll find it at www.gimp.org I hope this will bring a bit more light in this diffuse topic -Simon-
  5. This is no cheap indeed but I am sure it would be worth the price. I just ordered a book called: A catalogue of english coins, part 2 for a lot of money, so I guess I'll have to live with that one for a while I hope it's also worth the price.. . Anyway - Seaby and Coincraft are not that bad... Thanks anyway and who knows: If such books are still available from just before my next trip to England, I'll be glad to order one from you and save the postage Regards, Simon
  6. Throw in a price and I will tell you my decision -Simon-
  7. It's a pitty that I don't own one. I could not find this catalogue in the online shop, or is there a database on the web? -Simon-
  8. Me too, but I cannot remember where. MMMh, THE PLEDGE OF......what?
  9. Hi I found a strange coin again on the web. Does anybody know something about it? Is this a kind of a token? -Simon-
  10. Hey Bingo!!! See? I don't know the Coincraft Catalogue as well as I should... I prefer Seaby normally... That's kind of an interesting section about all those patterns Thanks for the hint!
  11. True, it's Oli Chromwell and Charles II without a crown. They normally wear a laurel wreath...
  12. Sounds interesting! I didn't thought that it could be a pattern. That may also be the solution for the good condition of this coin...
  13. Yes you are right, it looks like a Charles II Unite... althought not only the portrait but also the inscription would be wrong.
  14. By pure chance I stumbled over the following coin: Has anyone some more information about this coin because I could not find it in Spink's nor in Coincraft's Catalog either. Broad -Simon-
  15. 6p in copper? The poor people would have taken a wheelbarrow to go shopping! But probably they did so anyway The biggest coins of Switzerland were the 'Talers' that were produced to replace the goldcoins because gold was not available at that time. One of the biggest coins must have been the Doppel-Taler from Basel of 1670 with a diametre of 51mm and a weight of 56.46 gramm. A masterpiece of a coin! Its a pitty that the price is too high to afford one!
