Over 40-years service on the railway, mainly in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering with some Finance experience. But my railway experience goes much further than this, as I used to work as a volunteer on the preserved Talyllyn Railway in Wales - any job from Booking Clerk to Workshop Fitter, via Guard, Blockman (Signalman), Fireman, and also Driver (Steam and Diesel) except on passenger carrying trains.

On one occasion (it could never happen again!) when I was Booking Clerk, it was near the end of the season. An American couple came to the Booking Office window some time before the only train of the day was due. "Is the little train running today?" "Yes, Sir". He notices that I am counting foreign coins (collected as donations) and asked "Do you take Dollars?" "Of course". I accepted his dollars and gave change in Quarters, Dimes, wnatever. The Traffic Manager, recovering from an outburst of giggling, went out onto the platform after them and arranged for them to ride on the steam engine - everyone happy!

My transport interests are many and various. I've driven most types of vehicle, from Steamroller to Trolleybus. But those are other stories ...
