That's because of the clean air act, it used to fall as soot.

    1909 DOT Penny Variants

To me, who also has only seen a couple of No1 the third one just doesn't look right somehow. The edge of the dot looks to sharp, as if is a foreign body that has been pressed into the surface.
  5. Apart from the 1953 set which could cost you £800-1000.
  6. I have a date run from 1900 to 1967 and I have bought one or two loose but tried to stick to sets as much as possible. As said by Rob Maundy coins were not issue as sets and the boxes were sold as an extra should the recipient wish to buy one or two, they may have been given one free. If you do make up a set a quick dip will sort out any toning issues.

    Pennies - Edward VII

Hi, you attached the 3d section again.

    Pennies - Edward VII

Quality article - the header implies that there is a bronze penny article ? If so, I'd love to see it. Hi SS, Yes there is more. I put this together a couple of months before Michael Freeman re-released his 1985 book, so the rest of the document is a scan of the 1985 Freemans. I spoke to Michael at the time and found out his intension to re-release his book so my offering has collected dust ever since. I did add an additions section which I have sent to Nordle to attach to this post if he wishes. Additions.pdf

    Pennies - Edward VII

Thanks davidrj, reading it through for the first time in many years it could do with a bit of an update. One clarification is that the 1949 is available in both rounded corners and sharp corners. Also the thickness changed changed after 1937 so that needs adding. I also thought about adding a picture of my nickel thin flan Peck 2171 in my avatar which I believe was minted on to an Irish 6d flan.

    Pennies - Edward VII

Hi GaryD Brass 3D are a greatly overlooked denomination. They are a beautiful little coin with an interesting history. As far as I know there are 44 different variations of the Brass 3D but after finding out there are 60 variations of the Edward VII Pennie on this site yesterday when I had firmly believed there were on 26 variations. Are there more than 44 variations of the Brass 3D ? ? ? I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss Brass 3D's with you and I would also like a Brass 3D section if that could be arranged with the site controllers. Would if be possible to see your Brass 3D collections ? You can see mine on the CGS site under The Coinery and TC Coins. This is quite exciting as you are he only other Brass 3D collector I know. I look forward to hearing from you. Hi Guy, The 3d is only a small part of my collection but I do have an affinity with the often overlooked little sucker. I put a little pamplet together in the stile of Peck 10 years ago for my own interest, was it 10 years ago, doesn't seem possible. I recon the count is nearer 75 if you include the proof. Hi and welcome to the forum. Someone who collects Brass 3d's, I was beginning to think I was the only one with a set. Mods can we have a Brass 3d section.
  13. As you can see my avatar is a 3d minted on a Nickel blank. Peck records this as Nickel thin flan No 2171 possibly unique, never did find out what happened to Pecks as it was from his own collection and not in the British Museum. The Irish 6d was on Nickel at the time so obviously a 6d blank getting in with the Brass 3d's.
  14. I bought it from the bay, thr previous owner thought is was a coin for hiding secret messages in.I noticed it was in fact an unfinished project. I'll post some more pictures tomorrow.
  15. I'd deal with a call centre in the Philippines anytime over India, at least the Philippine accent is easier on the ear. Once had a Scottish call centre, now that was hard work.V

    Predict The Grade (again)

I would worry more if it wasn't toned as normally 1911 proofs come toned due to the box they were stored in, normally with a blue interior. Yes I'd expect the 1911 to be more toned than that.
  17. Important Message for all Numismatists A new amendment to the German Cultural property and Heritage Protection Law looks set to have extremely negative repercussions for collectors worldwide. The proposed changes to the law, put forward by German Minister of Culture Monika Grütters, will affect anyone specialising in traditional collecting fields, such as coins, stamps and books. What does this mean? In basic terms, it means that any owner of what is deemed 'cultural goods' with a value of 2,500 Euros will now have to provide absolute proof of the the item's provenance for the previous 20 years. In the case of items that are deemed 'of archaeological value', the same is true to the value of just 100 Euros. I don't trade in Germany, why should I care? Collectors all over the world need to take notice of this proposal. If it passes, it means that it will severely restrict trade in Germany, which will inevitably have a detrimental effect on prices and values across the entire market. Law is law, what can I do? This is one of those rare occasions where the voice of those directly affected can make a difference. The proposed amendment openly calls for 'comment and contribution', meaning that it is not yet set in stone and we can have an influence on the amendment's future. So, what do we do? A petition has been created which you can sign by following this link. At A H Baldwin & Sons we are actively encouraging our valued customers and friends to sign, so that we can continue to preserve the traditions and time-honoured culture of not just numismatics but collecting in all its guises. As always, we continue to appreciate your support. ----The Baldwin's Team Link to petition: www.baldwin.co.uk/petition

I believe there is a time limit, without dig it up I believe it is 6 months. If within the limit I believe you would avoid the duty. It does involve some paperwork and is more designed for sending items for rpair etc.

I know you ladies will be interested to read that an Independent Scotland can use the pound, contrary to what all the scaremongers/liars in Westminster keep telling us all, thus we'll be paying our share of your debt http://www.thecourier.co.uk/opinion/columnists/jennifer-dempsie/battle-to-save-the-union-was-based-on-false-claim-1.546581Another just half the story by the yes campain. Scotland can have any currency it likes, they adopt the US$ if they wanted to but would have no control. Look what happened to Greece and euro.
