  1. I'll try and photograph the crown later but I'm not sure a picture will convey much.

    1937 Penny

I've mention a couple of time over the last few years that I had one but know one took any notice.
  3. So nobody wants to tell the latest value for the Churchill satin proof. My Spinks is a couple of years old now.
  4. got this Churchill crown thats looks very satiny, milling cuts your fingers to pick it up, wots it worth now days, must be fowsands.
  5. You've met Dot then, she's a go-er.
  6. My 1937 Crown, PCGS 67 top pop.
  7. The only non destructive way I know of but still takes care is to ring them, easier to tell if you have one of each. I have both a 1935 raised edge proof (sterling silver) and 1935 proof (0.500 silver). If you carefully balance one and tap with a pencil the 0.95 silver has a lower tone.
  8. your right my bad. it was 47 when they went to cupro nickel. The VIP was available in sterling silver.
  9. I have a 1922 with the dot also. If a study was done you should be able to see the dot gradually form. I had a 1946 with a minor spiders webb crack where the dot was to form, I sold it before I realised what it was.
  10. Of course the 1937 is not silver but Cup0oNickel. The later E11 decimal silver proof crowns show nice frosting.

    1928 inverted axis penny

1928 must have been a bad year, I have one rotated by 330 degrees. Does that make it rarer than 180 degrees.
  12. The 1902 LT can perform well on the right day.

    Peter Nichols cabinets

I know that I've shown you my big'n before. I got this from Peter Nichols when he was still making them himself, I had the stand made at the same time and I think it came to £400 all in. I later took out the two medal trays to fit more coin trays. At the time I had several non standard tray made to fit Crowns down to farthings plus four special trays to hold Maundy sets. Later one Peter also made me two extra sides which I fitted into a flight case to hold the collection when in the bank whilst I am away for more than a couple of days.
  14. My phone is constantly on answerphone, they get the call answered which I assume costs them and if it's important they will leave a message. Don't get many messages.

    1946 & 1949 Brass Threepence

It will be the proofs of those dates, I realised after I'd finish scratching my head.
  16. Just come back from 3 weeks in the Philippines. X factor, essex, Soaps, Big brother, Jungle etc is quality TV compared the drivel I've had to endure. What really really p1$$e$ me off is the BBC world service, I'm in a foreign land and I want to know what is going on in the UK, BBC world service everything except UK news and then they spend more time telling you what is comming on in 15 different time zones than actually playing the program.

    1946 & 1949 Brass Threepence

What are the differences between the two 46's and the three 49's. I know there is the rounded corners and sharp corners for the 49 but what is the 3rd example.
  18. I was the initial bidder and left a fairly strong snipe but I was only 80% that it was an X. A normal 1911 taken at an odd angle can mislead and usually an X is unmistakable, but this one was leaving me just a little unsure.
  19. I just get 25+8. 3 of the 25 has to be saved for Christmas to fill in the week to the New Year. The wife is changing from 25+8 to 33 but has to book the bank holiday's off if not working, saves the company paying extra for working bank holidays.
  20. I've got so much holiday booked this year that I've had to pull days forward from next year. It all started with a long weekend in May visting No1. son in Berlin where he's doing an exchange year at TU. Then we had a long weekend in the Netherlands going to a 50th birthday, managed to sneak my road bike into the back of the car and did about 100 miles looking for a hill, didn't find one. For the last two weekends and the next two we have a cousin from Califonia over for a suprise visit, so 2 nights in London, a weekend around Lavenham, Finchingfield and IWM Duxford. This long weekend in Chester and LLandudno and next weekend in Windsor. Two weeks later taking No1 son back to Durham Uni and then a couple of week until out holiday in the Philippines. Back in November and time to start thinking about Christmas

    unique coin

RM suggested that it was minted on an Irish 6d flan, a mention in Peck should count for something though.

    unique coin

So my Peck 2171 Nickle: thin flan R20 is not worth a lot.
