I did see one once that claimed to be 'lucky' and 'randomly selected out of a hundred pennies.' It was selling for a 'bargain' (As the seller put it) 1p, plus p+p.

I am interested in creating a coin set for a relative as a gift. It would contain a every coin minted during the year of their birth. Only trouble is, I have no idea how to present the coins in their own case/wallet/folder, like the Mint do, while still protecting it and making it look vaguely attractive, without glueing the coins to paper (as I have seen done on ebay). Does anyone have any advice on what materials to use, or if empty coin presantation wallets exist, and if you can buy them from hobbystores etc? I know Chard manufacture their own packaging for their yearly sets. Thanks for your time

Old Style £2 Coins still in circulation

The first coin I ever bought from someone was a 1996 old style £2 coin in a nice red box. The man I bought it from explained that these were what £2 coins were before the bimetallic issue, they are still legal tender, and one occasionally turns up in a till. Can anyone confirm this? Even better, has anyone ever seen one? (and then no doubt pulled it from circulation straight away) -
If it was from circulation it would be face value I'm afraid. However if it was BU or Proof, it might well be worth a few pounds. If you pulled one from circulation that was nearly perfect, ie not scratches of dents it might be worth 80p+.

Matt finish on some 1992 10 Pences'

Hi everyone, After sorting through a number of 1992 10p's looking for the different varieties, I noticed that some had patches/bands where the sheen was not as good as the rest of the coin. Some take up large portionsof the surface area, and are completley straight. I would like to know if they are uncommon (probably not as I have three of them) or a mint error. I have noticed the same thing with some new 20p's I have come across. They could as well just be where the coin has been covered while the rest is exposed for sometime. They propably aren't worth anything, but it would be interesting to know if anyone can shed some light on it. Ali
