And what about the awful habit that's crept in of saying "Can I GET a ham sandwich ?" instead of "Can I have a ham sandwich ?".

Shouldn't it be "May" and not "Can"??

Possibly, in this sense however, "Can" is acceptable, inasmuch as the restaurant may not have all the ingredients in stock.

Ergo, you may have a ham sandwich, except for the fact that we don't have all the ingredients. Therefore you can't have one.

  2. Listening to US Presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren starting most of her responses with "so", was one of the most annoying speaking habits to which I've been exposed.

I've always felt that the use of "so", or "well", was superfluous and annoying and indicative of poor public speaking training and habit.  I've nothing against its occasional use, however it's consistent usage makes it, to me, a point of caricature.

I Though you knew about Gary's example Mike, yes I guess my ones about EF/ EF+  and Gary's  AU but, not quite uncirculated me thinks .  Is there a perfect one out there . ? :D

Coincidentally,  I have recently submitted it to NGC for conservation (along with another coin) and am awaiting its return.

Hopefully it will arrive within a month or so...

I think I've seen enough specimens of this variety to exclude it from my rarest penny site. Michael Gouby's book states "35+ known" making it Freeman R17 but my gut feel is that it's more like R16.

I've personally owned about 10-12 different specimens over the years.

Passed on as I upgraded or just sold if not an improvement...

I only recall 2 without the recut A, all the others had the recut A indentifier...

Are you lot going to stop talking a load of rubbish and let us all get back to the serious stuff like Bunny pennies. ;)

Across the pond we would say that that makes no cents....

Or get rid of cable television and go back to rabbit ears....

I've spent this evening listing 20 or so toy coins. Mostly Lauer which generally say "Imitation of" whatever. The listings all start TOY MONEY and they're listed under tokens. I had ebay autobots all over my a**e for the entire evening telling me that I couldn't list because blah blah blah. Sometimes I'd used identical wording just minutes before witout demur. As a result my listings will be finishing after midnight which is a practice that I usually find unprofitable.

So my take from this is that genuine collectable articles can come under severe scrutiny but just list an outright fake and it's Absolutely fine Sir, enjoy your selling experience.

I had listed some lots of Halfpennies and pennies, identified by Freeman numbers and ebays' bots kicked it out as using numerical grading.....

I had to change it from F number to Freeman number to get it to list....

I thought so initially too, as that's the commonest type, but wouldn't the obverse have relief lines on the leaves then ?

There are times that it looks like an obverse 6 too....

You have the coin in hand so I'll defer to your assessment.

Images can be deceptive even with no deception intended....

Technically, by ebay policy, this listing should not be allowed, inasmuch as it is being listed with a numeric grade not assigned by an officially recognized  grading service.

Number two, without having the references handy, I believe a Poor-1 needs to be identifiable to some minimal degree. This coin does not fit that description ....

That being said, I can appreciate the humor of the listing, as I have similarly had "world's worst coins" listed in the distant past....

Wait till you get it in hand Gary. My 1860 has a very clear crossbar that doesn't show in photographs but in hand looks as though an inverted V has been struck over the A.

That's always the final determinant Richard, and I erred in reading it as "inverted V instead of A"..

That being said, I distinctly see a crossbar so, my amended observation is, it is not an inverted V for A, although there is a possibility that it could be an inverted V over A, reinforcing the A.

A close examination with coin in hand would be the determining factor.

I've just purchased this F13 coin and it appears to have an inverted V over the A as in the the recent topic about the F10 coin. It hasn't arrived yet so I've only got these 2 images at the moment. Is this a rarity and does it look like a V over A or a filled die to you guys?

    inCollage_20190908_140415098_40p.jpg

Looks like a normal A with a weak crossbar....

    I've seen many like that...
