    Scottish cut half

Hi, some help needed with this cut half please, Alexander III first coinage, , not sure the type though. I can make out RES ON on the reverse .so according to Spink the mint of ‘FRES’ I’m assuming. That could be Walter type III, VII,VIII or Wilam type III. Looking at the coins in the book(page 17) the King doesn’t appear to show pellets for a beard like my coin does. Coins of Alexander II and William I show the King with a beard but no mention of the mint of FRES , wherever that is. Thanks in advance Richard

    Edward I penny

Thought I would share this with you good people, found by me detecting late last year. According to Withers , a class 10 cf, very common , usually . But this one has three pellets before the initial cross making it very rare apparently. How rare is it, that’s what I want to know, anyone else got one? Richard

    Edward id

According to Withers , “The Galatea guide to the Pennies of Edward I and II”those with terminal stops at the end of the legend are all 10cf

    Scottish cut half

So there was a Pieres at Roxburgh during Alexander II. So I think I might have solved it myself. Or have I ?

Thanks very much Dave, that’s saved much searching. Found in Sussex near the coast ,so more than likely to be Canterbury Richard

    Tealby penny with an S

Afternoon all, I found this Tealby last year and recorded it with PAS . The report came back stating its bust E1 , North 960/1 but didn’t mention the S after REX . Can anyone throw any light on what the S means . I’ve not been able to find any other Tealbys on the internet that has one. thanks Richard

    Tealby penny with an S

Thanks, reading through some of the BNJ notes on tealbys there’s plenty of heavy reading to digest ,most which goes completely over my head I’m afraid. I’m thankful if I can just narrow it down to the correct monarch mint and moneyer. I agree,I t is good to see plenty of hammered threads on here. There’s quite a few more coins I could put up for opinions and thoughts Richard I

    Tealby penny with an S

I’ve managed to find further evidence of the S after REX in my copy of Brooke and the 2010 coin register. But no mention of what the S might refer to, I haven’t had it recorded with the EMC yet , so that will be next.

    Todays Groat find

Nice coin Gaz, I was out detecting yesterday in the rain, no blizzards down here in Sussex. I managed three hammereds . Been going through a bit of a lean patch as regards decent finds so was pleased with yesterday’s finds. An Edward I penny,a short cross, think it’s Richard (osber on Winc),and a cut half short cross in very poor condition.

    Tealby penny with an S

Thanks coinery, I managed to borrow North from a mate and looked at the plate 18 coins. No 25 seems to show an S in the same position as mine and having looked closely at other tealbys on google the X of REX look very much like the cross and crosslet X on the reverse. More research needed I think Richard
  18. Certainly looks like fleur de lis and although I’m not 100% sure it looks to me like silver, very thin as well
  19. Hi, a friend has asked where this coin might be from . I’ve exhausted all my ideas ( google images) and was hoping someone here will be able to help. Only about 8 mm diametre . Pictures not that good as taken down the pub . But reverse shows a fleur de lis cross and the obverse has what appears to be a knight with a shield in one hand and sword in the other. many thanks Richard

    Henry VI penny

Thanks Dave, sorry only just replied, been out Christmas shopping, deep joy, not. Its a shame coin isn’t in a bit better condition. Did you notice the extra pellet in the first quarter, doesn’t show up too well in picture. Not found by me I’m afraid, but by a friend. Worth recording with PAS I think Richard
