    Happy New Year

I don't blame you Bob, your've done your time for Queen and Country (sorry Bob, President and Country ). Numismatically my New Year's resolution is to concentrate of GB silver coins and to complete my brass threepence collection. I need 2 to complete E-II and 14 to complete G-VI. I currently have 17 E-II and 5 G-VI. Am I correct in the totals to collect 19 E-II and 19 G-VI? Mark
  3. I know I shouldn't have left a post late on new years eve. My eyes were not focusing at there best. I have managed to get hold of a proof for £6 on Ebay (thanks Clive for the direction) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1953-U-K-Threepence-...1QQcmdZViewItem Happy new year Mark
  4. I am looking for a 1953 brass threepence Unc or BU with the I of Elizabeth pointing further to the right of the corner. All help appreciated. Mark
  5. Sorry Chris, It's the one with the I pointing to the corner I am looking for.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

But what you didn't realise is that the laptop came with the coin.

    threepence coin

I would have thought the coin was lacquered so that the brass would not be in raw contact with the skin when worn as a necklace. Contact with brass direct to skin can send the skin of some people green. The other reason could be so that the coin would not lose it's shine.
  9. I’d just like to wish everyone on the forum a Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous new year.

    Coin Trays

I received the trays today, thanks Chris, just in time for Christmas. Frohe Weihnachten as thay say in your neck of the woods.
  11. Chris, what about a bi-monthly or quarterly E-magazine with subscription.

    Coin Trays

My collection is kept in a spare bedroom which has been converted into an office, the temperature of the room is constant to the rest of the house (around 20 degrees), but I will take your advice and monitor the coins. Hopefully they will be delivered before Christmas which will give me time over the holiday to sort things out, thanks Chris.
  13. I think I will buy the next couple of issues from Smiths and if I like it I will subscribe.
  14. I agree with you Sergy. For me it just tries to cover too much ground. There must be room in the market for a magazine produced in Britain with the emphasis on old British coins. I know this sounds a little parochial, but it is where most of our interests lie. I seem to remember Coin Monthly (whatever happened to that) being far more my cup of tea. I just don't want to read about new issues of otherwise humdrum coins in 9 ct. gold issued by Brunei or wherever. True. Thanks everyone, so I take it Coin News is the best we've got at the moment.
  15. Thanks for the warning Chris, I thought it looked a bit dodgy.
  16. Please can someone explain to me what the difference is between the Royal Mint and the London Mint Office. I know the Royal Mint produce the legal tendor coins in the UK, but what part does the London Mint Office play. Thanks Mark
  17. As I have mentioned before the CCGB 2008 is great little book. Small and light for taking to shows /fairs etc. It’s the only book that sits permanently on my desk, the other books are put back on the shelf when done with. In fact I went to Athens on business for two days last week and CCGB came with me. I appreciate all the hard work that must be involved in getting the book out, just out of interest at what point in 2008 will you start preparing the 2009 edition.
  18. Sounds good Chris. Have you seen whats available on YouTube for numismatics, nothing educational or worth watching.
  19. Does Bamber GasShilling still compare the show, not watched it for years. Seriously, I don't think I have ever come across a TV program for numismatics, does anyone know of any good DVD's (preferably for GB coins).
  20. I’m still trying to get to grips with coin values. Please see the two examples below for instance. 1953 florin with a mintage of 11,958,710 = Unc £2.00 / BU £4.00 1954 florin with a mintage of 13,085,422 = Unc £25.00 / BU £35.00 I thought the value would have been the other way round due to the mintage. 1917 Half crown with a mintage of 11,172,052 = Unc £45.00 / BU £70.00 1915 Half crown with a mintage of 32,433,066 = Unc £50.00 / BU £70.00 I would have thought the value would have been a lot greater for the 1917 coin due to approximately 21 million more 1915 coins being produced. Please help a puzzled man. Thanks (Information from Collectors Coins GB 2008)
  21. Thanks everyone. It's somewhat clearer now. Mark
  22. Well, were out of the Euro 2008 football cup. I suppose that means more time next summer spent with my coin collection. When will learn to play international football. Mark
