    European Lookalikes

I can please all englishmen by revealing that Swedens first coins where made with imported stamps from England and the skilled craftsmen where to a very high probability english aswell. Later on, the coinage in Sweden was more influenced by Germany... but that is another tale...
  2. Im aware of that 5 shillings equal a crown, but why does some coins have the nominal 1-crown in writing on them (like a gibraltar crown Ive seen) and some 5-shillings (like most "english" coins)? Are there some kind of "rule" when to use crown instead of 5-shilling?
  3. And here comes an answer from the swedish board... "Seems you have found a unique coin - or possibly a counterfeit... Both the 1 öre and the 2 öre from all dates have plain edges. The 1907 coin is one of the commonest, due to the fact that all coins from 1907 and 1908 were dated 1907. (The king died in -07 and the new coins weren´t set to be produced until in 1909.) If your 1 öre coin of 1907 isn´t a counterfeit, or if you haven´t been somehow mistaken, you are to be congratulated. But I have no idea how much you can charge for the coin."
  4. Im no real expert on such early öres coins from Sweden, neither can I find any references to such variants in swedish coin litterature. I include some scanned pics form one of my books, showing they do note any variants. That of course doenst mean there doesnt exist as I know errors and flaws always sneaks in, into books and reference litterature. I have thus asked the question in a swedish coin and stamp forum. Hopefully there is someone there who can come with an answer.

    Italian coin!?

Thanks kuhli (yet once again ) While Im at it... does the book you have say anything about the danish 1-crowns between 1942-47... If I get one of my sources right, they where made in two variants; one in nickel and one in aluminium-bronze!? Or have I mixed it all up?
  12. Does anyone recognise the coin on the picture in the link below? Link I get it to Mussolini and 1928, but I cant find anything about such a coin!?
