  1. I have seen similar 'tokens' given as prizes from gaming machines in Las Vegas.
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong please, but I've always known of this coin to be called a 'Soho' Penny, coming after the Cartwheel of 1797 and minted in Soho.... Have got quite a few of them, but none of them collectable (Detector Finds)

    Interest in ancient coins

Hi Geordie, Is it a Detecting find ? Have you tried the FLO for your area....The one in my area is very helpful in getting coins identified. Looks continetal to me. I like hammered coins, got several, some in excellent condition.
  6. Thank you Kuhli. This forum is a mine of information. I'm glad I joined
  7. I have a nice Victorian Copper coin from the Channel Islands. Don't know whether to call it a penny or not, as it has written on it 'One thirteenth of a shilling' It's in the attic somewhere, i'll have to dig it out and do a scan as it's in lovely condition...Bought it in a car boot sale for a £1. Can anyone tell me anything about it, as nothing in the reference books I have.

Thanks for that, will give it a go.
  11. Hi Everyone... My first attempt at scanning coins for posting on the site were OK, but the pictures came out huge although they were quite low as regards Kilobites.....My second attempt was much better and I think they are comparable with other members postings...... What I cant fathom out is how to get the head and tail in one picture, do I need special software to do this or can it be done via XP......Any help would be appreciated

Scans attached......Coins not cleaned, as found,& scanned thru plastic of protecting coin holder but you can get a good idea of condition.
  16. Hi.....I can't comment on the 1914 coin, but the token from the description is an Anglesey Penny or halfpenny token...issued between 1787 & 1791. The head side should depict a Druids Head and the reverse side a monogram 'PM Co' for the Parys Mining company. The words 'Payable in Liverpool Anglesey and London' is stamped around the rim as on a £1 coin.....Do a search engine check on 'Anglesey Penny Token' and you will find photographs of the Token. Hope this is of some help
  17. Sorry Scans are large...Got to get the hang of that.

SEPTIMU SEVERUS SILVER DENARIUS AD 194

I will do scans sometime over the weekend and post them. They are the only 2 roman silver I have found in 15yrs, but have a nice Charles 1st penny. Henry Vlll Groat 1529 in stunning condition. Had 3 Coins of Edward 1st and 2nd, but they went for Treasure Trove...Valuation Committee awarded me £35 for the 3...Half went to the farmer...Now on display in Swansea Museum. A nice George 1st. Shilling 1723. SSC. & several other hammered and early milled coins, but quite worn.

Regarding the original posting where it is said that the coin appears to have been just minted in Rome... I have 2 coins......Faustina ll. AD 161-180 Septimus Severus. AD197-8 Dug them out of the ground myself in Shropshire....Both equally as good as the coin depicted on e-bay.
  20. Thank you Sylvester for the response.......Will follow it up as suggested. I can send scans if anyone wants to see the coin. I found the coin with a metal detector on farm land - Details of the coin have been recorded at the National Museum of Wales. (Not many Saxon coins turn up in Wales) I am trying to get some idea of the value for the landowner, so we can come to a decision as what to do with it.
