It just does not look 'Right' anyway. Strangely high price for a 'Copy' too.

Davies does not list any different numbers of pearls, just the position of the top cross. Probably blockages like you said.

1920 Half Crown, Superb
Iannich48 replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I got some very nice George iii coins from John Welsh in the nineties. Very nice to deal with I remember. -
Early January I would guess.

If it looks like a rat and smells like a rat, it is a rat and should not be bought. Just my opinion.

Yes, looks green. I thought that they called it green toning or patina these days😁

LCA catalogue now online
Iannich48 replied to Sword's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I think that i missed out this time, 0 wins from 4 bids. London Coins website is still down, but i have not received any email from them, so i guess that it means no wins. -
Maybe the sellers could mention what the actual reserve is, before the auction finishes.

I cannot think of anything better than counting teeth on these😁

I got a first edition for about £100 about 5 years ago, from Canada I think. It really is a great book.

I think not. Just a trick of the light in my opinion.

Legend Errors in Bronze Currency coinage from 1860 to 1901
Iannich48 replied to DrLarry's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
They certainly got their money's worth out of those early 1860's dies. -
Of course, i should have mentioned the other engravers etc, not all down to Mr Wyon.

Noonan's Sale Tomorrow - Problems With 3d and 4ds
Iannich48 replied to VickySilver's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I think that you are spot on as usual. Shame on Noonan's, but hopefully other buyers will notice what you have noticed about the 3 and 4d's. -
Well if Mr Wyon had not made any mistakes, the bronze coinage of 1860-63 would have been a lot less interesting.
-
That was a brilliant sketch.

That is some nice work with those 1856 pennies. I too was surprised at the amount of PT small dates that were found. Saltford Coins had a very nice one a few months ago.
-
The 1856 plain trident have both the large date and small date, but i believe that the small date is rarer on those. However, the ornamental trident is only found with the small date as far as i know. So overall, probably the small date is slightly rarer.
-
I would say small date.

1853 currency groat?
Iannich48 replied to Menger's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That was a lovely coin. It also said that it had the portrait from the 1866-1879 threepenc, so the second portrait. That would mean that it was from a later striking. Does that make sense? -
I doubt if there are many numismatists working with the police, or even been asked to help.(with there enquiries)

1969 coin prices
Iannich48 replied to david.bordeaux's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I guess that there are a few members on here that did buy coins in 1969. I was born in 1969, so that is a few years before i bought any. -
Yes, shocking. I wonder if that is £250,000 retail and what the bullion value would be to those scumbag thieves.
