    Sponk 2005

If you look at an early 80s catalogue and compare it to one now... also taking into account inflation you'll notice that prices were higher back then. I think by the early 90s the market had subdued. I wonder when the next 'dip' in the market will occur...........

I doubt that values will have gone down in Spink (I still think that they may be controlling the market prices).

I was going to sell my Spink 2004 but I have given it to my friends dad. He collected loose change from when he was a young boy working as a 'bakers boy'. He stopped collecting aver 40 years ago and I am told that most of his coins are in superb condition. He tried to value them ten years ago and he said that the valuation was 'substantial' so I am waiting to see what this valuation produces. He would never sell any of his coins though (sentimental value).

    Some really ridiculous eBay listings

I have heard of a few milled edge bronze coins. Corbitts had one in their June sale this year in F which sold for £50. Maybe they were trials of some kind?

I like the London accent. Do you mean the 'cockney' accet JMD? It does sound rather thick dosent it? It extends to near where I live but not to me thank goodness.

The correct wording and spelling would be: Je ne peut pas parler le francais, je suis anglais! Parlez is associated with 'vous'. If you wanted to be really french, you could say je peut pas parler le francais, je suis anglais (you miss out the 'ne' to make it slang)!

Interesting spelling Sylvester! My dad's theory on languages is that we don't need to learn any foreign languages because different countries learn english intensivly. Also, different countries communicate in English because they all can speak it. (It applies to business anyway)!

I can speak french near enough fluently. Everyone in my 'top-set' class hasn't got a clue so I help the teacher when teaching the class sometimes! We have a good teacher though but she is very strict.

I enjoy History mainly because of the topics we are studying...History of Medicine, Elizabeth I, and Local history are all facinating. But my faviorite subject has to be French......foreign languages always facinate me.

    The Cover is done

CC2005 will rival coin yearbook in my opinion, it is much better than previous years.

Is that 1934 crown ex you? It's wonderful! The cover is great aswell!

    THAT penny

Well they always said i was old fashioned so in 60 years when i'm a decrepid old man, the coins will still be in the cabinet! Maybe different coins and a different cabinet, but it'll still be the same old story. I would never keep my coins in anything but a cabinet again. A cabinet is the ideal way to store coins, it also adds a bit of style to a collection!

    THAT penny

It frustrates me when I see a maundy set or a proof sets slabbed because the coins are meant to be kept together and the box just lays idle. Anyway, they look much better as a set! Too bad the american's cannot see that.

    THAT penny

Now that dosen't surprise me..........it is one of the most high-profile and sought-after coins in British numismatics.
  21. I have never had dealings with that particular seller but I have had a few 'experiances' which I would rather forget about. Ebay is a gamble in my opinion, the best way to buy on Ebay is to only bid on items that are Guaranteed genuine, and are being sold by a seller with at least 95% positive feedback. I sell things quite frequently on Ebay with no problems but buy all my coins at coin fairs and from reputable dealers such as Chris (the owner of predecimal.com).

    Hmm...is it fake?

Hang on a minute are most of those 'fake' 10 pences dated 1992? You do know that the majority of 1992 ten pences do have rounded edges don't you? (wired edges). The later 1992 ten pences and all subsequent dates have flat edges. I handle alot of 10 pences and i haven't noticed anything suspicous. I know.......... but about 10 years ago, millions and millions of fake 10p's went into circulation and were never recovered. As I said they are struck on a slightly thinner flan. They are very hard to detect. They are the same colour and appear to be the same weight.

    Predecimal.com and Onlinecoins join forces!

Nice move Chris! It will be mutally beneficial.

    Hmm...is it fake?

Working in a shop, you generally see a lot of fake coins especially £1's and 10p's. The fake £1's have a slightly darker colour compared to the genuine ones, also, if you take a 20p coin and scratch in the observe field, you will see that it is made of lead. They also wear more easily. You would be surprised how many fake coins there are in circulation..........last night I counted 10 fake £1's out of 110 £1's out of the shop's takings. It's even worse for the 10p's..........around 40% of the 10p's in circulation are fake. The only indication that they are fake is the fact that they have a slightly thin and rounded edge. Compare a few of them and you will see what I mean. We cannot pay them into the bamk so we are either forced to declare them and lose quite a lot of money, or just return them into circulation through giving change. Our rule is that we just give them as change.

I got caught on a speed camera!

I must be confusing them with another device I saw on television.
