    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Probably by Osbert Lancaster, or, even better, by Ronald Searle.....
  2. blakeyboy

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

That looks exactly like one I had come in this week- I really studied it and did several tests, and I'm convinced it's copper-plated.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I'm enjoying imagining what the accompanying cartoon in Private Eye would look like......

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Just told him it's a fake.....
  5. The Magna Carta is viewed in the US as absolutely astonishing - something a lot of people over here don't realise....... If were all pedantic in a serious way, normal life would stop. Are 'carbon spots' really carbon? !!!!
  6. I didn't think we HAD a constitution, but I agree- 52:48 result was an instant problem. Oh- as far as I remember, 'referendum' isn't neuter second declension, but a gerund, 'The asking' which has no plural ending, so 'referendums' is likely ( jury is still slightly out) to be the correct plural English form. Long time ago. ( Latin and my learning of it. Another gerund there,....( I think)....)
  7. The ONLY reason I voted for Brexit ( I work all over Europe, so leaving badly could screw me up) was so that the morons at large in 'Government' would screw up or be so blindingly self-serving that people would finally see them for what they are. . Churchill, Attlee, Thatcher -all were there when needed. Who is it this time?
  8. Just had my Microsoft Advent calendar arrive. I'm not going to open windows 8 or 10......
  9. This Yuletide, thou art truly an all-round family entertainer.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

The amount of corrosion is interesting- maybe more galvanic than usual because of the steel box?

    That was lucky

    Yes- 'VOTE' not 'VOTES'....hilarious.
  14. blakeyboy

    That was lucky

Yes...and don't get me started on the 'VOTES FOR WOMEN' stamps... I have actually seen someone trying to sell an 'original' 'VOTE FOR WOMEN' penny that he'd clearly made last week.....what a knob.....!

I presume that the watch wasn't the first object it encountered on it's travel from the muzzle. If it had passed through aircraft metalwork then it would have not been bullet-shaped, maybe flattened, and would have had much less kinetic energy, so the the watch damage looks right to me. I've mentioned before the ebay charlatans that take a penny, hammer a punch through it, and jam an old ww1 bullet in the hole. They should all be shot themselves. It's funny how the penny involved is worn out as if it was taken from change in the 60's. They can't afford to destroy 1916 bennies in UNC......
  16. Oh it's too early in the week for me--I mean trumpet player.......
  17. I've decided to become a metric saxophone player and call myself 'Kilometres Davis"........
  18. Or at least you could fill in for someone... I asked my mate "Do you dig graves?" And he said "They're alright, I suppose..."
  19. Oh Quality. We should all start writing for Tim Vine.....

    slim pickings

I noticed that Slim Pickings was in the Nashville Hall of Fame- and still touring, apparently.....

    slim pickings

I've had quite vitriolic run-ins with some Ebay sellers who have _made up_ the 'penny with a bullet - Trench Art' nonsense, making cash from the WW1 centenary. Really winds me up.
  22. "I once worked in admin but had a nervous breakdown. " Been there. You earned a rest, you paid your taxes , so why worry? Comedy and music were my crutches. Now you should do the little personal projects you've been putting off for decades. `You could dress in drag, and earn money singing in campsites to keep the midges and mosquitos away. Get ready............ You could call yourself 'Citronella Fitzgerald'.....
  23. I was a doctor but I lost my patients. I went for a job at the circus as the Human Projectile, but I wasn't the right calibre.... I eventually went mad, and ended up in hospital because I thought I was a gun. I discharged myself.
