  1. I concur. Nicely put. I would add one thing: in my position, I collect for pleasure, but I would make a profit one day on every coin I have. I hope! My pension pot isn't massive, so this sort of thing will help. I always have 'value' versus 'price' in the back of my head when viewing lots. However, grade versus strike/ beauty is a minefield. I replaced my 1903 penny for a better condition one. I still miss the one I sold- it was one of those that anyone with no knowledge of coins would pick out immediately, saying how lovely it was....... Try looking at your collection from that person's perspective. Surely 'eye appeal' has a value???
  2. Just seen this- apologies if it's been seen before. Her speech does have some very interesting angles on the German perspective. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63IcW4eo4uM
  3. Doesn't stop the bloody annoying videos about nothing in particular that start up automatically, and then follow you down the page!!! GGGGRRRRR.........

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Him thinking a Shakespeare quote is a 'slogan' is amusing, and, of course, it's 'glisters'.......as any fule kno. Anyone fancy a pint in the Pedantic Bastard later on?

Alpine lake, altitude 8000ft, Sierra Nevada, when Yosemite was burning. No photoshop or anything. It just looked like this and I screeched to a halt and clicked.
  10. "I hope it didn't damage your colon." Good line. The 1890 is an odd one- the date has so much more of a 'change' to it from normal than many varieties of other dates, yet it's hardly commented on. The London Coins examples make me want to look for more of them though.....

    Removing scratches from coin slabs

I restore lots of old studio gear with lots of different plastic meter fronts etc. - I find toothpaste is just too 'hard' - brasso works well, but try T-cut first since it isn't designed to hammer the paint surface....
  12. An Englishman, a Frenchman, and a German sit a test. There is one question. Same question to each, in English, French, and German. They answer it correctly. The Englishman's answer is 8, and 202. The Frenchman's answer is 100, and 23. the German's answer is 8, and 12. What was the question? The prize is, hopefully, a huge pile of reaction points from fellow forum members, including me. ( I don't set easy questions as any fule kno.....)

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Doesn't this guy have a 'history' on this forum? He seems to be attracting those who get excited and click 'buy it now' without reading the 'disclaimer' at the bottom.....https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bare-Head-of-King-George-V-Britannia-Fourth-Design-Penny-1926-Coin/163675196264?hash=item261bcd4b68:g:KIkAAOSwJxtczCU4
  14. Let them cry!!!!!! I'll save all my Earth-shattering insights and life-changing observations for this Forum. ( It will actually be a half-baked pile of badly thought through tosh masquerading as intellectual mumbo jumbo. It's a new system. ) ( Rather loosely based on the old system, if I'm perfectly honest)
  15. Yes, it's not clear, but the German being A to Z would, I thought, have been the smoking gun for someone.... I'll think up another one.......
  16. Rightyho..... "if you wrote down the numbers 1 to 999 in alphabetical order, which numbers are first and last on the list?" Mr.T was soooo close.
  17. Again? You do lots of quizzes then Pete?

    More Pennies

That's a bit of a surprise.....didn't know there was that sort of tracking of a coins 'passport'.... Mind you, that price was a surprise too- nice one!
  20. Just did- omg how inept. Politics is now the domain of all the weirdos from school......
  21. Oh wow ...... you are closer than you can imagine- and yes, the German version is a dead giveaway......
  22. I hit a full stop whilst speed reading once- very nasty.....
  23. I'm sure I have that very wide date on a worn example - noticed it years ago in a pile of 1890's. Not sure if a good one commands a premium..
  24. Ohh...maybe I understand that you don't understand, but now I know you do. You not a Penny Freak then Rob? I had to fix my vacuum cleaner because it sucked because it didn't. Fixed it and now it doesn't suck because it does.
