Hi, Some info required please on this Henry V quarter noble. I believe its the Spink 1755.. Ordinary letters; quartrefoil to left and mullet to right of shield. I have tried to take some close up pictures to show what could be a mullet to the bottom centre of the shield. Looked but can't find reference to a Henry V having this. Also the spelling EXCVLTABTUR:IN:GLORIA. In Schneider's English gold coins he notes the misspelling of EXALTABITUR, My coin also has the letter I missing Would this be quite rare to see such a bad spelling of a word on a gold coin? Any chance of a grade please for this coin, I would say NVF.

I placed the coin in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries, The heading was Henry V coin. Obviously Hammered, You didn't have to look if they hurt your eyes so much 🙄 I find it hard to believe that someone who enjoys coins doesn't like hammered. They are absolutely amazing pieces of our past craftsmanship.

Thank you again Rob. I will keep searching for anything else I can find. Yep my mistake, I did mean trefoil. It helps so much when you guys with the knowledge help us beginners. Just ordered myself the JJ North, English Hammered Coinage. Hopefully this will help me a little with research.

Hi all. I don't have a copy of North's English hammered coinage, If anyone has a copy would they be kind enough to have a look if North mentions the spelling of my coin ? North- 1383. Also the Fr-111 could be the special works by Friedberg, not sure but he could mention the spelling. Thanks for any help.

Getting closer to my coin. Stops are slightly different and this coin says FRAN my coin FRANC, but another with the TABTVR. S-1757; North-1383; Fr-111. 26.3 grains. Quartered shield within treasure of arches; trefoil to left and mullet to right. Rv. Cross with lions in angles; lis in center. Class F. Cross pattee (pierced center?). Another superb Norweb collection purchase by Mr. Law, which realized £540 hammer in 1985. Well-made, though a bit ovoid. Lustrous and displaying ample legend for the type. A well-pedigreed example in top condition; among the finest. Choice Extremely Fine. Estimate: $1000

I think this coin must have been almost uncirculated when dropped. Over the years of being in the ground it had taken its toll, maybe if found it the year before it would have been perfect. It still gave me a massive buzz finding it so it still gets a place with my best finds.

Help needed with the i.d of this coin, I think its Edward III Durham mint, I'm not sure but maybe it has a double end Crozier, or it could be an annulet after TAS. I cant find any reference to this. Thanks for any help.

Hi, it was a detector find. Yeah much better to have it, but such a shame about the damage. I guess its not done too bad saying it was rolling around in a plough field for many years.

Hi Can anyone possibly give me the sub-type of this Henry V halfpenny. Rob i.d it for me as withers type 5. The coin is 0.47g and 13mm across, with a soltire stop after TAS.

Hi all Any chance of an i.d on this denarius found detecting this morning. I don't find much roman so this was a very welcome find. I have looked in spinks but no exact bust to this coin. As close as i can get is Julia Domna. but i could be a million miles away. Thanks for any help.

Yes!! I believe i was right with Julia Domna. Thanks Rob for the Wildwinds site. I think it was the first coin for Julia Domna i looked at 😀 Julia Domna Denarius,Ric 538 Rsc 221 Bmc 56 Rome mint 195AD Draped bust right /VESTA Vesta seated left, holding palladium and sceptre Rsc 221. The face on my coin looks a little crabbier but she has been in the ground for almost 2000 years.

Hiya Tom, This is one i found a few years ago, looks like the bust on your coin, But not sure if its the (R) mint mark.

Hi all A few of the 1887 coins i have are in quite nice condition but the tone is not so good . Some have really dark spots on them, some are really dark on one side, would this be due to me not turning them in my coin box for a long time? Can anything be done to gain a better all over tone, without the horrible dark spots? Or best just left alone. Thanks for any help.

Nice coins guys. These three came out of the ground with nice tones, I always wondered if it was caused by stubble burning years ago and the heat had discoloured them.
