    Ebay's Worst Offerings

After looking on their website one can see that the die crack, early though it is, has succumbed to the usual contemporary tooling. The leaves on the wreath and high points on hair are flattened. The reverse shows wear concomitant with that exhibited on obverse, lion’s breast and ribs in escutcheon, jewels in crown, Irish harp etc. Peripheral residual lustre is present so I’d give it a generous Sheldon of EF45, so in that context it is “extremely fine” though only equating to VF in ‘real money’. I’ve seen worse examples go for more than £6,750* and better examples go for less. * here’s an example of someone blindly trusting the grade on the slab (MS63😂) and shelling out £11,500 for an example which I’d have to be put in a headlock to offer £4,000 for. https://coins.ha.com/itm/great-britain/world-coins/great-britain-cromwell-crown-1658-7-ms63-ngc-/a/3056-30267.s?ic4=OtherResults-SampleItem-Thumbnail-022817&tab=ArchiveSearchResults-012417
  2. one might think that he’s making, or having the casts made. These dont seem common. I wonder who now holds the originals?
  3. I wonder what was the reasoning was behind that move🤔 Its not as though it takes up physical space.

    Halfpenny ID check

Maybe Sheldon’s motivation to create the system was pecuniary but the system is meant (intended) to define the quality of the coins”.

  10. I thought I'd have a browse... https://www.londoncoins.co.uk/?searchlot=1708&searchtype=2&page=Catalogue This one looks definitely suspect to me, perhaps a cast (?) yet verified as genuine by LCGS. The rim is also unlike any 1658 shilling that I've seen before. The sub-standard photography doesn't help much either. Moving on.

  14. I recently heard that he has discontinued his new line of lingerie. Apparently, Shatner panties wasn’t the best choice for a name.
  15. This one from 'Sorry I haven't a clue', I always liked Humph's introductory remarks about the town where the quiz was held that evening. This is how he introduced Nottingham, "It's well documented in official records that the city's original name was `Snottingham' or `home of Snotts', but when the Normans came, they couldn't pronounce the initial letter `S', so decreed the town be called `Nottingham' or the `home of Notts'. It's easy to understand why this change was resisted so fiercely by the people of Scunthorpe."

Dickens " A tale of two cities " was originally published in two local newspapers. It was the Bicester times, it was the Worcester times...

  19. Sentencing should befit the crime, only then will such criminals learn their lesson. Seizing all assets might be a good start, along with a lengthy custodial sentence. Unfortunately the usual slap on the wrist is no deterrent.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Some people are really in for a shock when they come to sell on. I find it hard to believe that someone who is willing to pay over £300 hasn't educated themselves in such matters, after all it is not even a good fake. He also has an Elisabeth 1 sixpence which screams fake and now at £64. 'There's one born every minute' seems to hold true on eBay.

Any quoting from the Life of Brian is out then. Chapmans closing line would cause a meltdown.
  23. For those of you that can and want to sit through it, there's a B&W (careful not to use the words in case some 'bot' bans me from living) film on YouTube starring Cyril and John Pertwee (its clear in this one where he got the Worzel Gummidge voice from). I'd never seen Cyril acting before and to be honest I hadn't missed much but it was interesting to see him in another role.

Zuckerberg and Thinkpol not really thinking it out. Some of the media on there is vile . FB disgusts me and I won't subscribe to their crass hypocrisy. Bring back the quill and pounce pot, that'll teach them.
