    Someone obviously decided that 100 years of circulation just wasn't enough for this poor 1866 penny ! It actually feels pretty similar to an old size decimal 50 pence in the hand.

    Yes. What I meant in my original remark is surprise that it could circulate for that length of time without at least one collector noticing it and stashing it away.
