I would like to volunteer for the post of "suitable heir" please.

All I can say is "wow", what a collection ! The 1860 UNC (not that far off BU) mule penny interests me greatly, but I fear I would be blown out of the water on bidding. By the way the link is here for convenience.

Unfortunately, advancing age and the lack of a suitable heir compels me to divest myself of my copper and bronze coin collection. I’ve selected Heritage Galleries as my selling agent, and they have put together a “monthly auction” that cherry picks the collection’s farthings, halfpennies, and pennies. If you’re interested in high quality, certified specimens of numerous dates and die varieties, have a look at the Heritage website presentation of my collection.

Yes, you are correct. I don't know which location is handling the auction, but usually the coins precede the auction date by 3 to 6 months, in order to catalog the contents, and decide which venue to place the coins in for auction. Many of the higher end auctions are held at some of the larger coin shows, like Chicago, Long Beach, Orlando, New York, etc.

Yes, if you buy anything in a Heritage auction they will ship by Fedex and you'll pay another 20% customs duty ! You need to factor that into your bid !

Have you ever had anything delivered by Fedex Mike ,they are a law to themselves .

It’s my understanding that the coins are in Dallas and will be shipped from there to the winning bidders. However, to be absolutely certain, I will call the consignment manager and inquire about this matter.

So, will these coins be sent from the US or England ? It makes a huge difference to the shipping costs.

A Brief Book Review Andrew Crellin. The Coinage of Colonial Australia: Governor King's Proclamation of 1800. Sydney: Monetarium, 2004 There's no question that this book is immediately pleasing to the eye and to the hand: Generously illustrated with images representing the times, places, people and coins discussed within its hard-cover binding. The introduction of ten pages serves to provide some context, including a socio-economic overview of the penal colony. A chapter is then dedicated to each of the eleven coins, which are described, their usage discussed and some tips provided for the novice collector. This is not a work of great depth or scholarship, nor was it intended to be as the primary audience is obviously not the serious numismatist. Rather, it is a welcome diversion that can be comfortably read in a couple of evenings. What qualifies me to make these comments? Well, frankly nothing. This is the first book I've read with a numismatic focus. That said, over the course of the past couple of weeks I've read a number of articles from the British Numismatic Journal on related topics which serve as a point of reference. These have been far more interesting and useful. Perhaps I'll summarise their contents in upcoming posts. The Coinage of Colonial Australia can be purchased here for $50 AUD. I bought my new copy recently from an eBay seller for $10, but they have no more copies left. This is unsurprising given that only 750 were printed.
