I'm interested in all coins, but I try to stick to Pennies. Also building quite a numismatic library, I might have more books than coins....

whats the green stuff?

have to be pleased with this
http://cgi.ebay.co.u...:EOIBSA:GB:1123
1896 A 5 centimes for around £3
hard to tell exactly what the grade is french site has one in VF 50 for 13 euro, its definatly VF50 minimum so, hopefully in hand it will be higher.

very nice 1934 penny, hard to grade though due to mint darkening, probably EF, but striking looks weaker in places

A vast amount of medieval silver is debased, if not intentionally, and so they would contain a multitude of impurities. This could therefore lead to verdigris due to the copper oxide forming or perhaps it is something like silver persulphate. It really doesn't detract from the coin's appearance in person and I doubt that it will worsen.

I agree about the penny being nice. I agree the obverse is probably EF though the reverse looks better. I disagree about mint darkening - I find those coins are actually easier to grade. The presence of lustre, particularly scrappy uneven lustre, just confuses the issue IMO.

At a cursory glance NVF/GF. Looks a pretty decent coin within the bounds of its grade.

Don't like champagne. I'm an Englishman don't you know? Got to be a pint of Mild.

Neither me, but a 'Mild Reception' doesn't have quite the same ring to it, no ?

went to dealers
spent £17
best deal was a 1911 halfpenny aunc (streaky and weak struck reverse so hard to tell) for £2
as well as 40p for some aUNC 1953 coins (halfpenny, farthing and 3D) all with oberse 1 (farthing is a 1A as well)

and a 1954 paris 10 franc for £4 2.2 million mintage is a very nice deal imo as that is R1
