THIS COINS IS SOLD. I'VE KEPT IT HERE BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A LOVELY COIN AND IS PROBABLY OF INTEREST TO COLLECTORS.
1934 Wreath crowns are rare enough in usual business strike form. This one really is very special though; a proof 1934 wreath crown, which would have originally been one of only a handful given to VIPs in 1934. It would probably have been part of a complete 1934 set originally. The wreath crowns were struck in very low numbers, and because of this, one set of dies would easily last for the entire amount of coins struck (business strikes and initial proofs). Before the business strikes were made, a limited amount of coins were struck using the new dies and on specially prepared blanks, this is one of those special coins. The fields are like mirrors and the design details (particularly the crown) appear frosted in comparison. The rim is razor sharp and the lettering is better defined than on a normal 1934 wreath crown.
The coin has a slight pedigree, it was sold by Mark Rasmussen a couple of years ago and still has his hand written ticket with it, which reads: 1934 Proof Wreath Crown ESC 374A (R5). It's been shown to lots of other reputable coin dealers since then and none of them have disagreed with Mark Rasmussen's designation. I guarantee that this is a proof, and if you're not entirely chuffed with it, I'll gladly take it back. This is the kind of coin that even dealers are pained to part with!
For many collectors, such a coin is a once in a lifetime opportunity. In the past I have sold normal 1934 crowns for over £4,000 so with that in mind, the price is cheap! £5,000 for a coin that is one of perhaps less than 10 and of a type where only 932 were made in total.
