Coin collecting and the study of coins (or numismatics) is a hobby that without doubt enriches those that practice it. Coin collecting is I suppose mainly about history, but it also teaches elements of science, archaeology, geography, politics, languages, maths, art (and the appreciation of art) and more besides. New coin collectors are the future of his fabulous hobby.

At the risk of perhaps sounding too old fashioned, it occurred to me that with all the modern distractions/electronic gismos and usual runs of adverts for the latest toys and other 'must haves' that children have to contend with, many of them may not even have time to consider collecting coins as a pastime. 

But I can't do that (and I wouldn't!), instead all I have is this page and the interesting ideas set out below aimed at new (but not only children) coin collectors:

Coin Collecting Kit 1:

Kit one contains the basics you need to get off the ground with coin collecting. It includes a very well made coin album with 110 spaces for coins. It can of course be added to as the collection expands. It also includes 100 plastic 40mm coin envelopes, which I find very useful for the coins that don't quite fit in with the others in the album. For a much closer look at things this kit includes a double lens, which can be used at 8x, 10x or 18x magnification.

As above, this kit includes a very well made coin album with 110 spaces for coins. It also includes 100 plastic 40mm coin envelopes, which I find very useful for the coins that don't quite fit in with the others in the album. Unlike the option above this kit includes the book 'Collectors Coins GB 2007' which includes market values and plenty of other useful information for all UK coins from the industrial revolution to now (you will always get the most current version, despite what is shown in the picture).
