If you already have a collection of British coins dated from 1797 to now, or plan on getting one, this book will save you a lot of research time (and mine, If it prevents people emailing about their coin values!)
It contains current market values for all British coins minted between 1797 - 2007* (not including Channel islands, Isle of Man or colonies).
* The gold coin coverage starts in 1817 with the introduction of the sovereign and runs to the last pre-decimal sovereign in 1968.
I have used this title personally since 1988 and I never thought I would one day be the person responsible for creating it. It's an A5 book (20 x 14.5cm) and is especially handy to take to coin shops, coin meetings, boot sales or other places where it isn't practical to take a giant heavy book that covers far more than you actually need.
It also goes into far more detail with error coins and different variety combinations than in any other book I have seen (apart from the well known individual specialist titles, which are very expensive to put together). Before I bought the 15th edition of this book in 1988 I really had no idea there were, for example 6 different 1953 Farthings types! Values for the commonest 1953 Farthing are as low as £1 or US$2.00 (in uncirculated condition), but for the 1953 Farthing with a combination of Obverse 2 and Reverse A, values are nearer £15.00 (US$30.00) !
This new 2008 edition of "Collectors' Coins Great Britain" really is the best version yet of this popular title (in the authors opinion). It covers more coins, lists more type, has better illustrations, more accurate prices, and at £5.95 it's still the best value British Coin Price-guide available by far.
I think you'll like it. I'm certainly very proud of it myself.
I can think of one or two hard-backed and rather pricey books on collecting modern coins that fail to provide their buyers with so much as half the useful knowledge served up in this slim A5 paper-back...Read rest of independent review for 2005 edition
